Two recent favorites

Gone Girl - Gillian Flynn
Thriller-mystery type. The story is told through character development with a fast paced, intricate plot. The alternating narrative voices make the pages fly by, and forces you to read the chapters two at a time.

We - Evgeni Zamiatin
First person, journalistic style prose. Strong, futuristic, science fiction. The narrative changes style from cold and calculated with no details, gradually shifting to more descriptive, artistic prose as the story progresses and the character evolves. The writing style is actually a major plot development and key to the character development.

As a side note, I wrote two recommendations on Doug Beatty's blog.

Week 1

Assignment 1:
17/24 on the Adult and 13/20 on the children's book covers

Assignment 2:
12/12 on the fiction cover genre recognition

Assignment 3:
I always have issues with there not being a perfect answer. I get afraid of being completely wrong with a customer, but I guess that doesn't really matter as long as they agree to try something and leave the library with it.

Assignment 4:
I chose the daily beast because I am already familiar with their website and types of content with reviews and humor.

I am choosing Locus Magazine with Sci-Fi because I am not very familiar with the genre and would love to learn more about it.

Assignment 5:
All I can say is that Animal Farm is one of my favorite novels, and I would love to see the version as imagined by this little girl. It reminds me of these loosely related movie reboots, like 21 Jump Street is suddenly a comedy instead of a drama. Her Animal Farm is a slapstick buddy comedy.
